Our keyboard and piano teachers are passionate about teaching and care about their students progress.

They are also great musicians in their own right. They have a wealth of experience and skills to pass on to the students. Each one is an accomplished performer, having passed a minimum of grade 8 for their instrument. Many though are multi-instrumentalists and have other talents to compliment this. From award-winning composers, to virtuoso violinists and music tech experts.

IAIN MASSON

Iain is a Scottish composer, conductor and paianist. He works as a freelance music leader, conductor and piano accompanist in the West Midlands.

 

Education: Graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Northern College of Music and was the winner of the RNCM Alan Rawsthorne Composition Prize in 2005.

 

Experience: As a Conservatoire student, he has worked as a Resident Pianist at various Birmingham hotels and bars. His compositions have been performed on BBC Radio 3 and around the UK and abroad. His compositions have been performed at venues including the Bridgewater Hall, Royal Swedish Opera – Kungliga Operan, the Italian Culture Institute Stockholm, King’s Place London, Brighton Corn Exchange, Regent Hall London and the Adrian Boult Hall to name a few. In 2015 he was proudly awarded Honorary Membership (HonBC) of Birmingham Conservatoire for services to the music profession in the 10 years following graduation.

PAUL RILEY

Paul is a keyboard and piano player who gigs regularly in and around the Birmingham area. From playing in various bands he has experience in a broad range of styles, including: Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Motown, Bossa Nova, Pop and Samba.

 

Education: Studied music at Cardiff University.

 

Experience: Paul is an enthusiastic piano tutor, both in schools and privately. Paul has experience as a keyboardist in various bands playing a variety of different styles (listed above). He has also played at weddings and in many local churches, for over 10 years. Paul is a versatile teacher who is equally capable teaching those who want to take exams for Grades as those who are looking to learn songs by ear or learn improvisation, jazz, or theory.

OLIVIA MURPHY

Education: Originally self taught she has been playing and studying music for 15 years and gained a BA Hons degree in professional musicanship from the institute of modern music. BIMM Brighton.

Experience: She teaches guitar electric/ acoustic and bass and ukulele. She has guided students through Rockschool and RGT grades. She has played in various bands and projects from rock orchestras Guns N Roses tribute acts to electric drum and bass bands.

Anna was a finalist in the 2015 Queen of the strings competition with a judging panel including Jennifer Batton Orianthi and Nik West (bass player for Prince) Anna has a passion for teaching and focuses on providing her students with lessons tailored to their individual needs and interests helping them develop their knowledge and own sense of style whilst learning songs they love.

LUCAS KELLY

Lucas Kelly is an experienced jazz pianist who enjoys teaching all ages and abilities.

 

Education: Lucas is currently in his third year, studying jazz piano at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

 

Experience: Lucas is an experienced and diverse pianist, from accompanying choirs to playing piano in several jazz orchestras across England. He plays in many diverse ensembles such as the RBC Jazz Orchestra, Duke Ellington Orchestra, Afro-Cuban Orchestra and the Township band. In 2016, Lucas performed one of his own big band compositions with his sixthform, Greenhead College, at the Royal Albert Hall for the finals of the Music For Youth festival.

 

Lucas teaches all grades in ABRSM Classical piano and up to Grade 8 in Music Theory. He can teach from beginners to advanced students.

ELENA MYLOANS

Elena is a singer songwriter and musician. She mainly teaches vocals but also teaches beginner piano and guitar.

 

Education: Bachelor Degree in Popular Music Performance and Vocal Teaching from Birmingham City University.

 

Experience: Elena began singing from the age of 10 and started to perform at the age of 14 years old. She has vast experience in a wide range of musical genres. She studied classical opera and has participated in opera musicals, pop and rock bands. Elena has studied a variety of techniques from some of the greatest vocal teachers around, for example: Brett Manning, Seth Riggs and Ken Tamplin. Her experience enables her to connect with all students and cater to each lesson, whether that is working on certain song techniques or graded exams and theory.
