Canoe Band

Canoe are a band with a love for the tunes that shaped generations. From the raw energy of 50s rock ’n’ roll to the attitude of punk, the soul of blues, and the unforgettable hooks of 80s and 90s pop, they bring it all together in one set.

Their music is an eclectic mix of the well-known classics you can’t help but sing along to, and the hidden gems you forgot you loved. Whether it’s gritty guitar riffs, smooth soul grooves, or sing-along anthems, we play the songs that move us, and hopefully, move you too!

Morganisation

Dave Scott-Morgan (former guitarist with the cosmic Birmingham band Electric Light Orchestra) leads his creative collective Morganisation with original songs, rock ‘n’ roll classics and quintessential ELO hits.

The musical style of the Beatles, Dylan and Buddy Holly feature in their live sets but the stars of the show are Dave’s original songs: humorous yet disciplined toe-tapping tales.

Join us at BPM Cafe on Saturday 29th August for an intimate acoustic show laced with nostalgic anecdotes of Dave’s artistic influences, meeting musical legends or writing songs.

Izzy Sparkes and the Glow Plugs
Izzy Sparkes, accompanied by her band Glow Plug, blends modern soul-infused rock with the timeless spirit of classic rock. Driven by powerful vocals, heartfelt songwriting, and gritty guitar work, their sound combines raw emotion with infectious melodies. Drawing on the energy of rock’s golden age, the honesty of ’90s alternative music, and the storytelling tradition of American roots rock, Izzy and Glow Plug create songs that feel both nostalgic and fresh. Authentic, passionate, and unapologetically real, they deliver music that resonates across generations. Here’s a link to their latest single: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1ZKtQvv6k9/

The Sitting Room and Shy Face Troubadour

The Sitting Room are a West Midlands based trio whose repertoire contains original, sophisticated, reflective and occasionally challenging songs, all beautifully presented.

The line up is  Elena Thomas – Lead Vocalist, Ian Sutherland Guitar/ Vocals – Andy Jenkins Guitar/ Vocals.

Shy Face Troubadour:

On moving to Birmingham in the mid-eighties, Tony answered an ad for FELT, a band signed to the infamous Creation label. He met Lawrence who said he liked Nick Drake and wanted a ‘picker’ in the band. Tony went on to play guitar on two Felt albums and toured Scotland with them as an acoustic support act. When FELT broke up, he formed a band with Felt bassist, Marco Thomas and called it THE DAY.

After a sellout Album launch in 2019, Tony decided to change his artist’s name to SHY FACE TROUBADOUR and formed a band under the same name. Tony has regularly released singles since the album and they can be found online here:

https://shyfacetroubadour.com/store

https://songwhip.com/shyfacetroubadour

Tony’s writing is inspired by songwriting greats such as Brian Wilson, Simon & Garfunkel, Elvis Costello and David Bowie.

Tom Robinson (BBC introducing) said:

‘’… a beautifully crafted piece of topical songwriting’’… He’s been ‘’honing his craft as a songwriter for 30 years, and it shows’’.

‘Lovely acoustic balladry from the ex-Felt guitarist. A very talented singer songwriter with a bag full of gorgeous folk/pop compositions’ – Mac (the Kings of Spain)

Tony will be playing AT BPM with his long-term buddy Richard Sames as SHY FACE TROUBADOUR DUO.

Attila Vural

If you’ve never seen Attila Vural perform, you’ve got to check him out. The Swiss guitarist is a dazzling musician.
His dexterity and speed, his incorporation of percussive rhythms and his original music are extraordinary.
His instruments are unique works of art, in particular, his dobromandola, a hybrid designed by Vural, with two necks jutting out from the body in a vee.
Watching him move up, down and around the instrument is a mesmerizing experience.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbVYd2p18bo

His baggage tells it all: while others wouldn’t ever travel without taking their umbrella – as you never know what the weather may be like – you will never see Attila Vural leaving home without his guitar: as you never know which melody is going to cross your path.

No need to say that his music sounds like a big suitcase full of lovely holiday memories – yet those are no fancy city day-trips, nor are they sailing adventures giving illusions of a pink painted moon-shine romance. The 1972 born guitarist, currently living in Zurich, Switzerland, rather tells us about journeys undertaken with eyes and hearts wide open, during which the musician is inspired by a touch of Latin American rhythm, tonalities from good old Jazz, and sober melodies close to straightforward Pop.

Since his very first arrangements, dating back to the early nineties, a creative mixture of influences characterizes the music written by Attila Vural. This mixture inspired both Vural’s own interpretations and the style of the various formations that played his compositions (Saf-Inütill, Approaches). Furthermore, Vural’s percussive mode of guitar playing is inspired very particularly by the German guitarist Claus Boesser-Ferrari. Other important inputs came from the experimental pieces by Heitor Teixeira Pereira.

In 1997, it was Dominic Miller’s CD «First Touch» that led him to focus increasingly on his solo guitar endeavor. Ten years ago, he decided to consecrate his passion entirely to the single guitar. He plays six- and twelve-string instruments and counts since recently on the support of a special edition 15-string guitar – a Semi Fretless Nylon String Uke-Guitar (guitar facture: Arns & Kallenbach).

oin Attila Vural’s guitar and embark on a trip into the world of musical encounters at BPM Cafe on Monday 14th September.

Tom Martin

Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Tom Martin came of age at a time of strife and violence, when “The Troubles” were raging.   He plied his trade as a boxer, but found he was more a poet than a warrior.  As a young man he set out, armed with a guitar and a handful of songs, to explore the world and make his mark as a musician and lyricist.

Working at a variety of jobs – busking, construction, truck driving and even grave digging in the Midlands of England, Tom crafted his songs and honed his musical skills, weaving the people, places and life situations he experienced into musical poetry – essentially and perhaps instinctively following in the ancient tradition of the seanchaithe – itinerant bards of Ireland whose stock in trade was verse, song and musicianship.

His travels have taken him far afield, from the wilds of Kenya to the streets of London, throughout Europe and the British Isles, to the Mississippi Delta and the bayous of Louisiana, through the mountains of Virginia and into the heart of New York City.

His motto: “Keep on keeping on.”
